About

LayerCoatRidge is a reference for one question: which slot in a stack a garment fills, and which slot is still empty afterwards. Nobody wears one thing. A shirt, a knit over it, something with buttons over that, and a shell if the sky opens. Each of those positions has exactly one job, and the front of a listing never mentions positions at all.

The catalog behind this site is 55 listings across six categories. Everything printed here is either quoted from one of those listings, counted out of them, or taken from a published document with a link to it. Where a listing states nothing, this site records that it states nothing rather than filling the space with an average.

What this site will not do

The rung that is missing on purpose

There is no insulating layer in this catalog. No down, no synthetic fill, no base layer. That is why the wet and cold page does not close, and why the coldest listing on this site is a rain shell rather than a coat: a shell addresses water and adds no warmth, and there is nothing here to put under it. Saying so plainly is more use than any amount of arranging.

The page that works through it: Wet and cold
